Oh By The Way

I heard from Epril that an acquaintance of mine was bitching to his friends that a few months back, I had invited him out to one of the pool resorts to go drinking, but when he arrived, he had to buy all the beer himself because I had no money.

To set the record straight: A bunch of friends and I were at this pool resort one afternoon. I had taken all the money I had brought along with me and bought three cases of beer. I sent a text message to this person to join us at about 4:00 in the afternoon when the beer first arrived. I never heard back from him. When he arrived with four of his friends at 7:30 — 3½ hours later — all the beer was gone and the party was pretty much over... and, yes, I had no more money to buy more beer.

This person and his friends then went out and bought beer of their own and drank it. Nobody else who was still there drank any of their beer... although I had a couple of glasses that they offered while I was sitting and chatting with them.

Hope that clears things up.

Totally unrelated to this post, Jil, I noticed the past years you're quite a Trekkie. I was wondering, what is your opinion about (the new) Battlestar Galactica. I used to be a Trekkie too but after watching 3 seasons BSG, I'm not really enjoying Star Trek any longer, it just doesn't compare for me. Would be interested to hear your 2 cents.

I like BSG. I've watched the first 2 seasons and they were excellent Science Fiction. But they operate within a very narrow storyline. I like Star Trek because it explores all different kinds of paths of humanity in its episodes... much like Doctor Who as well.

Totally unrelated to this post, Jil, you're a man of the world. if you had 500k$ in cash and no job where would you live? (i am slightly younger than you)

$500,000 isn't enough to live the rest of my life by any stretch of the imagination. It wouldn't even last me 10 years. I'd take it and build my chicken farm here in Jasaan to create an actual income.

Jill, $500,000 is good for about $1670 per month at 4% interest. That's 75,000p per month income. You can live in PI with that type of income...no problem!

The last two times i saw foreigners start chicken farms, the chickens died off because of unsanitary conditions and what chickens were left was eaten by the family!!

Anon,

Over the past year, I was living on around 75,000 pisos per month, and it was just enough. So, yes... that would be an option as long as (a) you don't spend any of the principal, and (b) inflation and currency devaluation and return on investment all remain stable.

I suppose if you find a way to supplement your income by about $1000 per month with part-time work, it would be a much better idea than a chicken farm.
