Aw Fuuuuuuuuuuuck

On June 15, 2003, for the first time, I turned on my work computer in Asia and said a little prayer: "Please start." Every day since then, I said the same prayer. Every day since then... for the next 2,519 days, my prayer was answered.

Not today. Today was the day my work computer officially passed away at the ripe old age of 7½.

Another one is on the way from my company... and it will arrive... when? I hope soon. Ten days would be fantastic... 2 weeks okay. I'm mentally prepared for 3 weeks or more though. Until then, I sit.

It was the absolute worst timing too: I had just ran my bank account down to zero by paying my rent 4 months in advance a few days ago, and paid for Ednel's school yesterday. It was the last of my tax refund money. I'll get a micro paycheck in 2 weeks from the 5 days' work I got done this pay period... but that's it for a while.

Well, I can't just sit: I'd get depressed. When I don't want to work and I sit around, nothing makes me happier. But, from experience, when all I want to do is work, and all I do instead is sit around on my ass wishing I could work... that's when the noonday demon finds its mark.

So, out the door I'll go... I'll grab my camera, or grab Tyson, or grab my wife, or grab them all and go for a walk... or I'll grab a broom and clean... or I'll grab a hammer and fix something... I'll probably blog more too, so at least there's that. I might read a bit too... though blogging and reading seems suspiciously like sitting on my ass. I'll need to be careful not to do too much of that.

Isn't that the way it always is, though? Couldn't it have happened before you spent all that money!

P.S. Should it be seen as a good sign that they are sending you another computer?

It's obviously a good sign that they are sending me another computer. But, it's a big, impersonal corporation... so it's not really a kum-bay-ya moment or anything.
