Almost There

Actually, the Piso bounced up over 48 for the first time about 2 weeks ago, and then it dropped back down and yo-yo'ed inside of 47. Hopefully this most recent dash between the newly-moved goal posts sticks.

Next stop, 50.

And, since it's been a while, I'll make another prediction: I predict that within 6 months, the Piso will be 55 to the dollar, and within one year will be 60 to the dollar.
UPDATE:

I was reading back through some comments and predictions I made in this post from 5½ months ago:
I would say that we've been in "pivotal financial times" for the last 6 years; the last 8-10 years if you want to be finicky... ever since the Asian Crash and Dot Com Bust. However, the housing crisis of the last 12-24 months is probably the biggest threat to global financial security currently, and that will probably have resolved itself (most likely for the worst) in the next 6-8 months. I have a feeling that we will know the lay of the land long before "2008-2009" is in the here and now.
Of course, one of you thought you were smarter than me:
funny isnt it how all Jils predictions seem to correlate with whats best for him.......

greater housing declines ( he doesnt own a house in US) and yet this also corresponds somehow to a stronger dollar and more spending power for him

i dont beliueve there will be any serious consequences for the world economy from the US housing decline.
Oh Lord, it's hard to be humble.

Sometimes this is the best reason for why I blog: To feed my monstrous ego and watch people get annoyed by my being constantly right. It's so amazingly gratifying.

(Obviously it's the main reason I put up this particular post: To razz people who know I'm smarter than they are, and get bothered by that fact; then I get my giggles when they try to take me down a notch. Thanks for being the first to the bait, anon.)

It's even more satisfying because it is always the same people like yourself who keep on reading and reading and reading my blog and then get pissed and try to take me on, either with low-brow insults, or (even more amusing) with inferior wit (like the particularly untelligent commenter I was goading in this post).

What I really love most is the fact that people like you can't help but be somehow attracted to, and fascinated by my writing, while getting annoyed by me at the same time. You have no idea how empowering that feels: That my writing and my intelligence annoys, disgusts, and insults people... and yet they always come back for more.

Thanks for your continued patronage anon. I couldn't blog from on high like I do without people like you to look down upon.

i'll be blunt - i read your blog because your life is amusing in a sad way

anyway your guesses at being right, are not even that. you read some carp on another site, post it as your own and claim the plaudits in the 50/50 chance it has of coming good
all adds to the amusement of your blog - in a sad way

Nice try... but you're still like an abused housewife lacking the common sense or courage to leave. Making excuses as to why you countenance the abuse doesn't change that fact.

And whatever reasoning you choose to apply to my supernal ability to figure stuff out doesn't change one iota the simple and straightforward fact that I really and truly believe that I'm smarter than you are.

(Your spelling errors, poor grammar, and lack of proper punctuation of course just help confirm your hayseed mentality and lazy-mindedness to me. I know that I have intelligent readers, but you're patently not one of them.)

Anyway, if the miniscule and worthless bits and scraps about my life that I deign toss on the floor for you to snatch up are enough reward to outweigh the contempt you feel at my superior intelligence, then by all means, enjoy my blog.

If, however, you do finally decide that my self-appreciation and overflowing pride in having the better intellect is too much to tolerate, and decide to never visit my blog again, please let me know: Otherwise, fact is, I'll never even notice that you've left.

Though this does sound like an accurate description of your wedding day, it all falls into place now. your blog about your sad life is just a front and you are in fact a pedo

Actually, Star, it's a blog where I put up posts that tease and goad unintelligent people like yourself (that was your comment about "no serious consequences" in the main body of the post, in case you had forgotten) into making unintelligent comments, and then I enjoy myself by mocking them. You would have figured that out by now if you had more than a tenth-grade education.

Fact is, I like to imagine that when you untelligent people read my posts about how smart I am, you all shout, swear, or stomp about the room yelling at the walls about how much you hate me, before you sit back down at your computer all red-faced, huffing and puffing to type out some misspelled, half-thought-out nonsequitur to me, which lacks periods, commas, or any shred of a point. That's probably not the case, but it's still fun to envision.

But yes, Star: You are a racist pigfucker who wrote that Obama shouldn't be elected because "it's been proven that Africans have inferior DNA"... and that got you banned from posting any additional comments on my blog. I made this exception in case you wanted to defend the bone-headed comments on the housing crisis you made 6 months ago. (After all, it's not fair to ban you from commenting on a post that is, in parts, about you and your demonstrably profound ignorance.) But anyway, you didn't. So back you go now to oblivion. Seeya douche nozzle.

LOL, interesting posts Jil. You seem to have a very diverse fan base for your blog. But reading you tear apart Star reminds me of a point I was going to make on one of your pervious posts.

You linked to a Rolling Stone article about John McCain. You did not provide any personal analysis or comments to that very short post. But after reading the RS article (titled Make-Believe Maverick) I believe in the greater context that article means absolute nothing. It was a not so subtle "hit" piece on a Presidential Candidate published one month before the elections.

An accomplished, talented, writer, such as the one who wrote this McCain piece, could make anybody look bad. Taking facts, events, third party observations, and twist them around to put them in the worst possible light. I actual seen a piece somewhere that criticized Mother Teresa - can you believe that - attacking mother Teresa?

For example take you and I. We are much alike in age; education; foreign travel/living; and we both share a taste for younger Asian ladies (although you are now offically off the market). Our traveling and living in Thailand/Philippines could be written in a way to make us sound like the biggest scumbags around. Of course like a true hit piece there would be no proof/evidence but lots of accusations, second hand analysis from unknown persons (who have a personal interests in attacking us) with no opportunities for use to defend our actions or write/publish a rebuttal on our behaves.

Yep - the McCain RS article was nothing less then a hit job - from a less then reputable magazine*. Plus, I wonder if every fact in that article was fact checked????? Probably not. In a piece like that the truth is really not important.

Chief

* Many many years ago Rolling Stone did a hit piece on Bruce Lee. As a child who idolized Bruce Lee - I will never forgive RS for that hatchet job, may they all rot in hell. Which is why I think they are less then reputable magazine.

Chief,

I'm in a bit of a hurry on my way to lunch, so excuse the brief reply. Also, I don't have time to check all of this stuff to make certain, so I may be mistaken... but:

If I remember correctly, one of the main sources for the Rolling Stone article was John McCain's book, "Faith Of My Fathers". Other sources regarding his performance as an aviator (crashing 3 military aircraft, training records, et cetera) were probably from readily available records. I'm not sure how you could twist McCain's flight record to "put it in the worst possible light". Either he lost 3 aircraft or he didn't. Either he graduated 975th out of 980 (or something) or he didn't.

Of course, much of the story is from personal sources is hearsay, but all of it? Like I said, a lot of the facts of his personal life come directly from his own book.

Of course, it is a hit piece. Look at how many books have come out about Obama lately. That fact is hardly something to raise eyebrows.
