I had a godawful night of sleep last night. The power went out at midnight, and without the air conditioning, I opened the windows and balcony doors to our bedroom to get some cool air. Didn't work too well. Then a couple of mosquitoes came in and got me. Then the McDonalds that Epril and I pigged down before bed came back to haunt me. I finally fell asleep at about 5 a.m.
I woke up at 10:00 to the flood. By 1:00, the waters had receded and it looked as if nothing at all had happened from way up here. I doubt that those people down on the valley floor would see it that way.
In the evening it was out to Cagayanon Restaurant with our neighbors Dave and Nilda Pebley, fresh off the plane from California. It was their treat tonight as a belated wedding present for Epril and me. We had a good meal, with the highlight being a whole baked lapu-lapu (a local whitefish similar to cod) in a cream sauce. There was a good steak dish, fried calamari, asparagus, and chicken adobo.
After dinner, we all went to Zax to hear the bands. All of the other expatriates were there as well, including Dave and Rose Ferrell, fresh off the plane from London. (Yup: All of the part-time residents seem to come home to CDO at this time of year.)
Anyway, Elmer The Queen was there performing as usual. I think he's gotten too much positive feedback from his campy gayboy schtick, and it's becoming a bit outré. Every guy that goes to Zax knows that Elmer is going to hit on them at least once in the evening, and wouldn't be there if that was a problem. However, it's gone from one or two cute and light-hearted attempts at gaiety in between songs to a Visayan comedy drag show filled with gay not-so-double entendres... with singing in between.
Well, it was just one week. We'll see if it goes on.
