Another Big Storm Coming

This one is apparently even bigger than the last one. As per usual, Mindanao will probably be spared the worst of it.

As a note to readers unfamiliar with The Philippines layout, the article mentions "Cagayan", which is a state in the far north of the archipelago, which is about as far removed from the southern city of Cagayan de Oro, where I live, as the state of Washington is from the city of Washington DC.

Let's hope that people are able to better remove themselves from this upcoming onslaught better than the previous.

There are several good choices for places to stay in CDO.

First is the VIP Hotel, which is 30 seconds from Spooks. Rooms start at about 1200 pisos per night.

Second is The Dynasty Court Hotel, about 8 minute walk from Spooks, but closer to the towns nightclubs and good restaurants. Same prices as above.

There is also Natures Pensionne, close to Dynasty, but I am not sure of the prices.

Up on the hill is the fancier Pryce Plaza, with rooms starting at the 3,000 pisos range, but you have a nice restaurant, lounge, pool, and great views over the city. Transportation to CDO from there is simple, so it's mostly a function of price and prestige.

Also, further out of town is Kingston Lodge, which is a favorite hangout of the local expatriate population, with a pool and good restaurant for Kano food. Getting from there to CDO goes from "simple" to "relatively easy", but the nearby SM Mall is simple to get to. Rooms there rent by the day, week, or month.

Glad to know there are two Cagayan de Oros. I always check to see where these storms are, because I know you're in the south. But if, beforehand, I had seen the name, Cagayan de Oro, and the subject came up: Great Storm, it would give me reason to faint.
