Best Redneck Song Ever

Okay... Time to pick the best redneck song ever. Criteria: (a) The song has to be good (classic, well-known, popular). (b) The song has to be topical. (c) The song can't be by Lynyrd Skynrd. Put your YouTube link in the comment section, and I'll add the video to this post as time goes on. (Country, classic rock, whatever... as long as it brings to mind visions of pickup trucks, cheap beer, manual labor, and rural living.)

Here is my entry:

  2. This what you yanks call southern music? hehehe. Just kidding but if you truly want music of south throw some blues, bluegrass, zydeco or etc on this blog. If you gotta blast the country try Zac Brown Band or go with some Hank. Maybe ole Tom forgot redneck while he was getting to the point whiling another joint.

  3. Anon, two points:

First off, "redneck" is not necessarily "southern" (although it doesn't hurt), although I thought my dixie blues rock selection was pretty sou'uhn.

Second, put up your own selection if you think you've got one.

  6. Phil,

Not bad... but I'm going to leave it off the list: First, it isn't a well-known song (though I have heard it before once), and second and more importantly, it isn't a particularly flattering song about rednecks (fights, prison, et cetera)... and I think the best redneck song ever should at least show rednecks in a neutral-or-better light. ("Friends in Low Places" would be a better choice for this theme, if you want a suggestion.)

  8. Anon, A fine choice. I've had to switch out that particular video for another version. When I try and go to that link, YouTube proclaims, "This video contains content from Vevo, who has decided to block it in your country."

So yes: The song is up, but it isn't the same video you chose. Hope that isn't a problem.

  9. Jil,

Ive done decided you aint a yank anymore but are rather a honorary southerner, now we just gotta get you to join a reinactment wearing a grey uniform hehehe. My first choice was "friends in low places". Thats a good beer drinking song but youd done up and named it a few posts ago. Im kinda surprised , due to the blogs Philippine connection, that aint nobody yet named any of Fil-Am country singer Neil Mccoys songs though like wink, beer goggles on or rednecktified.

  10. Anon, Thanks for the label. I used to have a roommate in New York City who hosted a gay country dance every week at a dance studio, and I'd go and enjoy the music.

Believe it or not, the one place I lived where I heard the least amount of country music was Houston.

Anyway, I was only going to nominate one song as "Best Redneck Song", so I'll consider your passing mention a desire to nominate "Friends In Low Places" to be your own nomination. It is now up.

  11. Country boy can survive by Hank is the best song in my opinion.. though friends in low places comes in a close second
