Quotacious

Davis says Palin won't give any interviews until she feels "comfortable" giving one. And this morning he added that she wouldn't give any "until the point in time when she'll be treated with respect and deference."

Sarah Palin could be the President of the United States in four and a half months. We tend to think of this as an abstraction; but it's true. And yet today she's so unprepared and knows so little about the challenges and tasks facing the country that she can't even give a softball interview.

Josh Marshal,
Talking Points Memo

Ok.....I do not know much about Josh Marshal but I do now that Talking Points Memo is everything that is wrong with modern day politics. The divisiveness and partisanship has polarized our country into small voting blocks based on our ethnic background, economic levels, or other factors that set us apart from each other.

We get lackluster, mediocre politicians like Biden, Palin, Bush, Pelosi because the good men and women out there refuse to participate in a political system which shreds it political candidates and their families. Talking Points Memo is the standard-bearer of these politics of destruction. Much like DailyKos, Worldnetdaily, Townhall...all out to destroy someone solely because there is a letter D or R after their names.

I thought you were better then that.

A very interesting comment Chief; it really explains very well how our political process suffers when modern partisans focus only on the political behavior, affiliation (and, yes, even personal life) of their opponent and don't even bother to address the content of the specific message their opponent is conveying.

I also enjoyed the way in which you provided an example of the partisan attacks you so loathe by avoiding any mention of the content of the specific message from Josh Marshal, and instead attacked only on his web site's political behavior... and the behavior of other web sites as well... and then used that broad brush as a way to invalidate anything that Josh might say in the eyes of your readers.

Actually, the way in which you ignored the content of Josh Marshal's quote, and instead went on to dismiss Talking Points Memo as a "standard-bearer of these politics of destruction" is a great illustration of the oft-used "Latte Sipping / Big Oil" attack.

(To the rest of my readers, see "McCain hates the environment because Republicans hate the environment" or "Obama wants to surrender in Iraq because that's what liberals do" for other examples of the "Latte Sipping / Big Oil" attack that Chief was trying to illustrate.)

And Chief, you also get bonus points for throwing in a great example of the "Stupidity By Association" personal attack ("I thought you were better than that"... Golden!), which political hacks have been resorting to of late that you rail against so heartily in your comment. The way you surreptitiously bring my intelligence into question based on nothing more than the websites I read is a great example of how partisan smear machines take otherwise-mundane and innocuous aspects of a politician's life and use them to impugn aspects of that politician's character and mindset.

(To the rest of my readers, see "Reverend Wright", "The Alaska Independence Party", "Jack Abramoff", "Bill Ayers", and "Jesse Jackson" for other examples of the "Stupidity By Association" attack that Chief was trying to illustrate.)

(I have to apologize Chief: At first read, the message you were trying to convey was so subtle that I thought that the hypocrisy of your comment might have been accidental but, unlike you... I KNOW you are better than that. Heheh. So, well done Chief. A most excellent use of irony. I wish all of my readers could drive home their points with such style.)

LOL, touché. Nice comment...very nice. I have finally found a worthy adversary (or maybe ally?). I will bring my A game to this blog from now on. I will admit the last sentence was a bit much...and probably uncalled for on my part.

A noble admission, my putative partner in persiflage. Your patrician plaudits of my polemic peroration is 'preciated.

LOL. But technically the last word of the second sentence starts with the letter "a". But I will let it slide. So do your skills end at word play or can you write haikus also?

Jil Wrinkle said...

Nah, don't give me to much credit there, as even my word play is cut rate: It took me an hour to come up with that last comment.

I wish the president was chosen by the people and the popular vote as it is in many other countries. I think Obama would win.
